HCA Working on Providing Future Employees for the Heavy Civil Construction Industry

Monday, January 11, 2021
The Heavy Civil Construction industry is in need of trained and skilled workers. Though these are difficult times, HCA is moving forward with building relationships to promote and attract quality professionals with basic training and skills necessary to advance in our industry. HCA has recently partnered with the Aldine School District, which has developed over the last few years a curriculum that includes accredited NCCER certification for their students while completing trade courses. For example, students completing their welding program will be certified welders and NCCER certified upon graduating as seniors from high school.

On Thursday, December 3, 2020, Jennifer Bernal, director of small business and employee development, along with Steven Aranda of Reytec Construction Resources, Inc. and Cody Burgin of Millis Equipment, made a stop by Eisenhower High School to visit with Mr. Carlisle’s welding class. Mr. Aranda and Mr. Burgin sat down with the students to discuss Heavy Civil Construction career opportunities that are available to certified welders. HCA board members will be visiting other schools within the district, and setting up a job fair or participating in one put on by the school district towards the end of the school year, depending on the requirements of the school district at that time. Programs that are available within the Aldine School District to students include Engineering, Heavy Equipment Operators (simulated machinery training on-site), Robotics, Diesel Mechanics, Welding and more.

If you are interested in giving a little time and willing to help mentor these young students, please contact Jennifer Bernal at the HCA office. They could use your help and knowledge and mentoring these students will not only benefit their futures but also help the Heavy Civil Construction industry.
