HCA's Education Committee is hosting a webinar, "Preventing Fraud in the Construction Industry" on Thursday, October 15th from 7:30am to 8:30am. We have the pleasure of having both Mike Karlins, CPA - Assurance Partner and Scott Contreras, CPA - Assurance Senior Manager of Calvetti Ferguson as our presenters.

Despite ever-increasing attention paid to internal controls, ethical behavior, and fraud avoidance in the construction industry, these issues persist for companies of all sizes. Join this webinar to learn how construction companies and their CPA partners can use the travails of others and avoid costly challenges associated with ethical lapses and fraud.

The key points the panel will discuss are:

  • Understanding how fraud occurs and what economic impacts does it have upon the construction industry?
  • Identifying the top eight fraud schemes in construction.
  • Learning why people commit fraud including common motives/pressures, opportunities, and rationalizations.
  • Defining ethics in the construction industry.
  • Learning how to detect and reduce fraud risk in your company - regardless of the size of your company.
  • Minimizing the likelihood of fraudulent behavior by learning proven methodologies for setting up and enforcing controls.
